Who? Jenny King
What? Irish embroidery
Embroidery is widely used in fashion, from high street to couture, a timeless trend that returns again and again. Jenny King is one of the most experienced and cutting-edge embroidery and mixed-media textile designers working in the UK fashion industry today.
Together with her highly skilled team, they work on an Irish machine, which is highly specialised for embroidery and no longer in production after the 1950s. The free-hand satin stitch embroidery that can be produced is unique in terms of creativity, quality and aesthetics.
‘We are proud to preserve a technique that could otherwise become a dying art, by renovating old machines and continuously training new embroiderers.’
Established for over fifteen years, demand for work is constant and Jenny King Embroidery counts amongst its clients an ever-growing list of high-profile designers, including Mary Katrantzou, Stella McCartney, J.W. Anderson, Vivienne Westwood, Roksanda, Olivia Von Halle and Rixo London.
She has worked on many collections produced by Erdem and will be exhibiting at Harewood alongside an Erdem dress, showing the embroidery process that incorporates motifs from the ceilings of Princess Mary’s Dressing Room.
