Who? Jahday Ford
What? Glass Artist
A recent graduate from the Manchester School of Art, Bermuda-born Jahday brings an contemporary approach to the traditional technique of glass-blowing, using digital design to push the material process.
Jahday’s Breathe vessels are the result of craft and technology combined. The sound of Jahday breathing into his glass-blowing rod was digitally recorded and turned into a 3D form. This formed the basis of a mould, into which Jahday then blew molten glass. The final vase mimics the shape of the breath Jahday used to blow it.
‘By recording this, we have essentially frozen the moment in time, where the craftsman is embodying himself in the work.’
Jahday has exhibited his work at the Manchester Craft & Design Centre and is recognised as one of the most exciting talents in the sector.
