Who? Hiut Denim
What? Jeans for men and women
Where? Cardigan, Wales
Cardigan is a small town in Wales of 4,000 people. For three decades the town was known for making jeans and they made 35,000 pairs a week. The factory was the heart and soul of the community. One day the factory closed. David and Clare Hieatt started The Hiut Denim Company to keep manufacturing alive using the many talented skills that existed on their doorstep, in the minds and hands of the community.
‘Do one thing well’
‘Do one thing well’ is their ethos. For Hiut this means making the best quality jeans, using the best denim, cut with an expert eye and sewn by ‘Grand Masters’. The title ‘Grand Master’ refers to the approximate 10,000 hours of practice it takes to become a master craftsperson. Senior sewers at Hiut have closer to 40,000 hours.
Hiut denim has been worn by everyone from Meghan Markle to The Arctic Monkeys.
