Who? Effie Burns
What? Glass sculptures
Taking every day life sources and turning them into something of wonder is part of Effie’s approach, as she creates miniature landscapes of glass objects cast from vegetables. Effie’s sculptures are presented under antique and handmade glass domes, illuminating the scene within and showing that things are not always what they seem. These small objects of beauty allow the imagination to wander and invite repeated viewing, each time viewers find something new.
‘I like to combine traditional skills like casting and engraving to create sculptural objects that are both familiar and delightfully strange.’
Effie has exhibited internationally, including shows with Contemporary Applied Arts in London and the Crafts Council in Tokyo. She is featured in the recently published A Celebration of British Craftsmanship, which has a forward by HRH The Prince of Wales.
