Who? 1882 Ltd
1882 Ltd was formed in 2011 by Emily Johnson and her father, Christopher – fifth and fourth generations respectively of the world-famous Johnson Brothers pottery lineage. 1882 Ltd brings together the many skills of local craftspeople in Stoke-on-Trent, pairing their expertise with guest designers. The result is a series of intriguing product ranges that push the boundaries of ceramic material, form and process.
‘Our ceramics are to be used, loved and desired and to bring enjoyment be it in dining and decorative objects to lighting and art pieces.’
1882 Ltd’s presentation at Harewood celebrates the people they work with in the Stoke-on-Trent ceramics community, who are the gatekeepers of knowledge and skill that stretches back for centuries.
1882 Ltd has exhibited around the world, including a magnificent six-metre tall installation at the V&A of 3,000 bone china buildings by Barnaby Barford for the London Design Festival in 2015.
